The US Open is the fourth and final Grand Slam tennis tournament of the year. It is also one of the oldest tennis championships with beginnings in 1881. It is held in August and September and players compete against each other on an acrylic hard court which has less friction and produces a lower bounce compared to other hard courts.

The US Open was the first Grand Slam tournament to utilize the instant replay review of calls where players are allowed to challenge the official call of a point. It was also the first to use a tie-break at the end of a set, a practice which differs from the other major tournaments.
