An overhead smash is hit above the head with a motion that is similar to a serve. It can be hit with a considerable amount of force and it is usually the shot that ends a point. Most players hit smashes near the net or in the middle of the court before the ball bounces.

Overhead smash
It is generally used in response to lobs that the opponent was not able to hit high enough. A player can also smash a ball from the baseline but it often lacks the full force of the typical smash shot. A jump smash is a shot where a player jumps and then hits the smash in mid-air.
