Hard courts are usually made of asphalt. Courts of this type can vary in speed. They are faster than clay yet slower than grass surfaces, and they allow the ball to slide. Hard courts are considered to be the most equal playing surface for all styles. The amount and size of sand used in the top paint of the court can determine the speed of play.
