Grass Court

Grass courts are generally made of rye grass in different compositions. Maintenance costs of grass courts are considerably higher than those of other courts because they must be re-seeded every year. This type of court is often slippery. Balls typically skid and bounce low, forcing players to try to reach the ball faster, creating the fast style of play that is common in grass courts.

The slippery surface also compels players to make a lot of small adjustment steps to get into the correct position. Furthermore, players must also make constant quick adjustments in their swing pattern and footwork. Players who perform well in grass courts usually tend to be effective in hard courts, too.
